April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
CNVC recently launched an event with support and materials from 1in6.org, 1 Blue String, and The Bristlecone Project. To find out more about these organizations, click the links.
The 1 Blue String campaign was launched during April’s Sonora Second Saturday Art Night as a means of bringing awareness about male survivors of sexual assault. Musicians were featured throughout the shops and the guitarists were asked to place one blue E string on their guitars as a show of solidarity for male survivors of sexual assault. One in six men has experienced sexual assault or abuse in their lifetime.
The first week of April was also National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Prevent Child Abuse Tuolumne County hosted a luncheon to honor several people in the community that are dedicating themselves to helping victims/survivors of crime. As part of the event, they also featured a guest speaker, a survivor by the name of Scott Sunday.
